About Times of Pol
Times of Pol is an independent, small-scale publication that explains how politics and government actually work. We publish plain-language explainers and background guides on elections, voting systems, constitutions and law, public policy, diplomacy, international relations, human rights, global organisations, conflict and security, and political economy.
What we publish — and what we do not
We want readers to be clear about this, because it matters for how you should use the site. Times of Pol publishes explainers and background guides. We describe durable, widely documented principles, institutions and processes.
We do not operate a newsroom. We do not employ reporters or correspondents, we do not conduct original interviews, we do not have anyone reporting from the field, and we do not publish breaking news, live coverage, or exclusive claims. Nothing on this site should be read as first-hand reporting. Where you need the latest developments on a story, go to a news organisation that does original reporting.
Who writes the guides
Our articles are researched, written, reviewed and updated by a small editorial team and are published under the name Times of Pol Editorial Team rather than under individual bylines. We use a collective byline because it is accurate: the guides are produced collaboratively. We do not invent author personas, and there are no named journalists behind this site.
We are researchers and writers, not accredited political scientists, lawyers or economists. Our guides are educational material, not professional, legal or financial advice.
Political position
Times of Pol is not affiliated with, funded by, or acting on behalf of any political party, campaign, candidate, government, or advocacy organisation. Our guides aim to describe how systems and arguments work rather than to tell readers which side to support. Where genuine disagreement exists, we try to set out the competing positions and the evidence behind them. We do not treat every claim as equally supported simply for the sake of balance.
About this domain — important history
We believe readers deserve to know the history of the address they are reading. The domain timesofpol.com has been used by several unrelated parties over the years, and the current publication is not a continuation of any of them:
- 2014–2015: the domain hosted a WordPress political blog called “The Times of Pol”, with its own writers and commentary.
- 2020–2021: after that project ended, the domain was taken over and used to run a Spanish-language online storefront selling hats and knitwear. That content had nothing to do with politics or journalism.
- 2022–2023: the domain was recycled again, briefly reappearing as the old blog archive, then as an unrelated entertainment-news blog.
- 2025: the domain sat on a parking page while it was unregistered or for sale, and was at one point used for gambling-related spam content in Portuguese.
- 11 July 2026: the domain was registered afresh by the current owner. The present publication began from that date.
We did not acquire, and do not claim, the archive, brand, trademarks, goodwill or business of any earlier owner of this domain. We do not claim continuity with the 2014 blog. We have not republished anyone else's articles. Every guide on this site was written for this publication. If you are looking for content that used to be at this address, we do not hold it and cannot supply it.
